The ATSF workshop will provide the theoretical and practical knowledge you will need for the advanced Structural Essences (Structural Essences /SE/ AT Structural Integration Module I) courses in structural body treatments. Here you will learn the specific anatomical and biomechanical knowledge and treatment of each body region within the Anatomy Trains fascia meridians. A strong emphasis is placed on treating the local tissue areas that cause problems along the lines and integrating the changes made so that the nervous system can accommodate the changes made.

SE-1: The foot and the arches
The relationship of the feet to the ground The relationship between the foot and the shank determines the support of the whole body, and therefore any differences in the structure of the foot can affect the rest of the body. Effective arch balance is essential for effortless and elegant walking, pelvic stability, efficient functioning of the lumbar region, and even support for the head and neck. We will look at the effect of the bones of the foot on the arches, how they help them to recover and function. By tracing the forces from the muscles of the lumbosacral and thigh, we will create a starting strategy to achieve better mechanical support by resolving myofascial flattening and shortening, muscle and fascia line imbalances throughout the lower limb.

Our themes:

  • How do vaults behave when walking and standing? How do they relate to the pool and AT lines?
  • How do the long muscles of the leg compensate for the supporting effect on the arches?
  • How do the leg, lariat and hamstring muscles work together for rotational balance of the foot and knee?
  • Accurately define the relationship of the bones to separate the foot and leg from the rest of the mechanical chain (foot, ankle, knee)
  • BodyReading to read varied patterns (supination, pronation- more than flatfoot)
  • Functional testing, palpation, examination in motion
  • Possibilities for treatment of plantar fascia
  • How do the leg, lariat and hamstring muscles work together for rotational balance of the foot and knee?
  • Introduction to myofascial techniques for releasing rotational, supination and pronation compensations- treatment options for compartments and septa of the foot and thigh muscles

SE-2: Fans around the hips
The hips and pelvis collectively receive forces from the legs and transmit them to the spine, so this area plays a very complex role in the functioning of the body. According to Ida Rolf, the pelvis determines symmetry, as any misalignment between the hip joints and the pelvic floor can affect the leg and the overall length of the spine. Therefore, in any treatment, it is crucial to balance the area to bring about long-term changes. The workshop will take a closer look at the pelvis as the cornerstone of human architecture, with the twenty or so muscles located here grouped into three ‘fans’ for precise definition.

  • Overview of the anatomy and physiology of respiration
  • Presentation of therapeutic guidelines for “normal” breathing
  • Introduction to myofacial techniques applied to the abdominal fascia, ribs, vertebral-rib joints, mediastinal visceral tissues, scalenus muscles and lumbar muscles
  • Techniques to assist the respiratory wave to the anterior, posterior, lateral and each “quarter” of the rib cage
  • Significance and study of the interaction of the diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles
